Jonathan McWiliams wins the Kate Lynch 701 Individuals 2023!
The Warriors dart thrower Jonathan McWilliams has won this year's Kate Lynch 701 Individuals. This year's 701 Individuals seen a lot of top quality dart legs with a lot of matches decided by missed doubles. As always, one leg of 701 can go either way so nobody was favourite to take the trophy home. Semi-final one seen Glenpark Celtic's Anthony Officer taking on Warriors' Jonathan McWilliams. Jonathan was the better scorer in this match but by missing nine match darts it allowed Anthony to have a chance at tops for a 79 checkout only to wire the double. Jonathan then stood up and hit double 10 with his first dart to secure his spot in the final. The second semi-final seen a St Malachy's Old Boys' derby match between Aidan Braniff & Paddy Cassidy. Both players have already beaten some top quality players to get to this stage of the competition. This form continued for both players scoring six 90+ scores between them. Both players missed match darts but Aidan held his nerve when he stood up and hit the winning double with his third dart to make to this years final and another St Malachy's derby match. As for the final, it did not disappoint. Jonathan won the closest to the bull to start the leg first, he then stepped up and started with a ton. Aidan struggled with his first 12 darts which allowed Jonathan to take a commanding lead with some high quality scoring. Aidan didn't lose heart though and found form later in the leg with a 121, 60 and 96 back to back but it was just too late for him as Jonathan stood up and checked out 63 to be this year's Kate Lynch 701 Individual champion 2023!
